It seems fitting that while we are all caught up in the Olympic frenzy, we would bring to you news that one of the world’s most luxurious diaper bag lines – born in Britain, our Olympic host country – is now available in North America.

While diaper bags have become more and more stylish, no brand has captured the essence of true luxury and stunning elegance like SugarJack.  Launched in 2011 by two dads with an established background in high-end fashion accessories and packaging design, they knew exactly where to start. They put their heads together and, with the help of the UK’s foremost handbag designer, created this outstanding selection of effortlessly chic and functional baby bags.

The Oliver Bag from SugarJack

Even though the prices can be a bit gulp-worthy (ranging from $349.00 to $619.00), they represent a true long-term investment.  The complete lining unit housing the pockets and essentials for all baby-changing requirements can easily be removed leaving just the second luxurious inner lining. And constructed with such sumptuous materials, hardware details and quality workmanship – this diaper bag transforms into a fashionable handbag that you’ll be dying to show off.

In a final nod to luxury design, SugarJack has attended to every detail which means your bag purchase includes a high grade changing mat, a bottle warmer, and two utility pouches/purses. It also arrives in a “keepsake” box that can be re-used to store treasured items and an eco-friendly bamboo Dust bag, which has been designed to be used as a lovely tote shopping bag, or an extremely practical laundry bag for the nursery.

This is truly a sweet treat for the new mom (although, with such great designs, we’ve contemplated purchasing them for ourselves!).

Hailing from Holland, you can see why this gorgeous bike seat for children has won several prestigious awards globally. The BoBike collection has received high marks for everything from safety and design, to ease of use and comfort. And luckily for us, it’s now available in North America.

The Bobike Mini + is a very cool looking, compact front mounted bike seat for kids 9 months to 3 years (20-33lbs), and can be paired up with a matching windscreen (sold separately). Parents love the front mount, because it means they can keep an eye on their child without always looking back — and besides, it gives your child a perfect view of the world in front of them. The adjustable foot support trays are another great feature of the Bobike Mini, and the bevy of designs means there’s a look to suit everyone.

If a rear mounted bike seat is more your speed, they offer the Bobike Maxi. With the same safety standards as the Mini, the Maxi can be used from 20-50lbs. Available in two contemporary styles to match any bike frame.

Comes with brackets and can be installed on any type of bike.

With babies spending 2/3 of their first year sleeping, few things are as important as a really good mattress. Nook has clearly taken this into close consideration with their line of beautiful non-toxic mattresses for babies and toddlers. The highly coveted Nook Pebble, a natural crib mattress (albeit premium at $599), is rife with features parents love: a unique pebbly and colourful surface, natural materials (organic wool and cotton), no off-gassing, and nano-level particles that make it stain and water resistant. And the bumps actually do serve a functional purpose – they help facilitate better airflow and temperature regulation, so baby sleeps better. Besides, it looks so good, you don’t even need a mattress cover!

For those wanting to spend a little less, take a peek at the recently launched Nook Lite. Lite comes with the same great look (pebbles and great colours), but a few things have changed: the materials used aren’t organic and they use a non-toxic foam core instead of natural latex. But like the pebble, it’s comfortable, hypoallergenic and washable. Dual-sided too, so it’s firm for babies, and softer for bigger kids. But the end result is a mattress that weighs and costs less!

4 moms (with 15 kids between them), is actually a five woman company who have combined their experience and incredible smarts to great effect. Simply put, they make products that make things easier for parents. Their newest addition, the Origami, is the world’s first power-folding stroller. You might have to see it to believe it, but this gorgeous little machine actually folds itself.  The generator that’s stored in the rear wheels is busy at work charging the stroller while you stroll. Little luxuries abound – you can charge your cell-phone, and count mileage while you walk. Plus, the Origami has daytime running lights, pathway lights for low-light conditions, and sensors that detect when a child’s in the seat (so it’ll never fold by accident). Talk about easy.

Available through 4moms.com for $849.99

For anyone who has tried to cram a regular sized crib into a wee room, or spent countless hours putting up/taking down a crib, the foldable mini crib from babyletto will seem highly appealing. The Grayson sports a hip, modern design, and is incredibly light at only 62lbs, but it’s real magic lies in it’s portability — it collapses easily into a compact flat so it can be stored behind a dresser or under a bed (for those lacking in closet space). With two adjustable mattress levels, it works well as your baby grows. Made of zero-grade MDF, the Grayson is available in espresso, grey, navy, and white. And at $240, it won’t break the bank!

Uber-urban stroller brand, phil&teds, has unveiled a new in-line tandem stroller called the Promenade. One of the best new features is a seat that converts into a lie-flat bed (no bassinet add-on required!), and easily reverses to be either front or rear-facing.  It also features a one-hand triple recline main seat, adjustable foot rest to accommodate your growing child, and extendable sliding handle to make strolling more comfortable for you.

With dual front wheel suspension and 4 Airless EVA tires, this sleek stroller maintains a rugged (but now more stylish) functionality, and will adapt to take one or two children similar to other phil&teds inline stroller offerings.

The Promenade is expected to retail for $849.99 (with a $149.99 Double Kit add-on) and should be available for sale in early 2012 – although you never know for sure…  We will be sure to keep you posted!

If you love a good family getaway, but cringe at the thought of all the luggage, then the Guava Family Inflatable GoCrib may become your next best friend! Aside from the nice design and compact look, this portable crib sets up quickly and packs easily, which means you can take it just about anywhere.

It’s easy to use, with a dual action pump that inflates in seconds and a rounded structure that’s both soft and super lightweight – only 7lbs versus the Pack’n Play which weighs over 20lbs. Comfy too, with a cushioned foam mattress pad for support. But best of all it’s super portable. Stuff it into a backpack like a sleeping bag and you’re ready for the next big adventure (even if it is only to Grandma’s house!)

Aside from being captivated by the photo of this beautiful baby, this little slice of fashion is as practical as it is good looking. Created by the makers of the Woombie Swaddle, this peanut-shaped swaddle is a more stylish, eco-friendly way to keep baby comfy and warm. Expected on the market in January 2012, the Modswad is a comfy blend of bamboo and merino wool, with a knot to customize length. So clever. Good for babies up to 9 months.

With such a beautiful Fall, it’s easy to feel like the cooler temperatures will never arrive. But with winter creeping toward us, it’s time to start digging out all of the cosy covers we can find. Far better than blankets, bunting bags keep baby warm without the hassle of falling blankets, naked feet, or cold air seeping in. Even better, they are multi-purpose, adapting to a car seat, stroller, or portable playmat. Talk about getting your money’s worth!

This September, we attended the ABC Kids Expo in Kentucky, where we were privy to some of the newest products being launched in 2012, many still in prototype. What was most interesting was not just the number of contemporary new brands hitting the market, but how many of the bigger, well-known kids brands have stepped up their game, launching new and improved products that are stylish and well-designed.

Five key trends dominated this years show:

1. Transparency: see-through cribs, peep-hole dressers, food containers

Check back as we profile several of the hot new products hitting the market in 2012. We’ll share our “on the floor” visit to the ABC Kids Expo, complete with videos and interviews over the next couple of weeks. You can also see our Top 10 List of New Products for 2012.

Another amazing, innovative product is being brought to the market by bloom, a company that lives and breathes style. They announced the launch of their first-ever stroller at this year’s ABC Kids Expo–the award-winning babyZEN. Simon May, one of bloom’s founder’s, gives us a personal demo.

This new stroller has a truly unique design, with features such as a 3-in-1 carrycot/bouncer/travel bed, the uber comfortable yoga mattress constructed from high quality foam, and a super-slim one handed fold (super easy!!) allowing it to fit into even the smallest of spaces.

Most cool, is the first-ever integrated solar powered LED light with handlebar controls. For avid travellers, we think this represents the next generation of travel stoller:  slim, lightweight and incredibly good-looking.  And, in both a cmyk or monochrome color design, you are guaranteed to find the look that appeals to your personal aesthetic.

The babyZen is anticipated to be available to North American customers by January 2012 – most likely through giggle.com.  We’ll keep you posted.

Designed in Denmark by Baby Dan, a company better known for their safety gate and latch products, the innovative Angel furniture “line” demonstrates the blend of beauty and functionality that we have come to expect from Nordic design.

Although we haven’t yet had the chance to get hands-on with this 3-in-1 crib, baby sitter, and highchair combo (not yet available in North America), we’re impressed by the simple, modern look of this furniture and its ease of transformation.  Plus, we’re pretty sure with the safety experts at Baby Dan behind this product, you can rest assured that this is one product where safety and comfort will not be compromised in the name of style.

“Designed for kids and engineered for parents”. So says Magna, the parent company who manufacturers parts for automobiles. They should know.

It sounds like the perfect booster –the safety of a LATCH system with the convenience of easy installation. It does what the name suggests, it clicks into the back seat of your car. For the more technical parents out there: the back of the booster has two protruding latches which can be clipped into place with ring tethers which are mounted under the upper seat cushion. It may not sound easy to use, but trust me, it is. Once connected it’s doesn’t move, not for anything.

What really caught my eye was the design. Comfy and cool, with a plush ultra-suede customizable washable cover available in many funky colours and designs. It also has a cargo-thingy for stowing kids bottles. Ozzi retails for about $70. And, the Oobr (with high back) retails for about $275.
